On average, Americans spend approximately six hours per week cleaning their homes, with more than a quarter (28 percent) spending over seven hours straightening up. However, roughly a third of us are concerned if it’s enough and if we’re cleaning correctly, according to survey results compiled by the American Cleaning Institute.

The most dreaded of cleaning tasks is cleaning the bathroom (52 percent), followed by kitchen cleaning (23 percent), dusting (21 percent), mopping (20 percent), and doing the laundry (17 percent).

Homeowners can reduce the pain by remodeling their bathroom, kitchen and other rooms. For example: Easy to clean and maintain kitchen flooring, good choices are linoleum, ceramic tile--both very common--and wood. With bathrooms, using large format tiles is the way to go, installing a wall-hung WC will make sweeping or mopping the floor a breeze, just to give you a few ideas.

Here are some habits that can help keep a household ahead of the mess:

  • Keep clutter to a minimum. That allows for fewer places for dust and allergens to accumulate.
  • Avoid spreading dirt and germs around the house by washing hands regularly and wiping shoes on entryway rugs or mats.
  • Keep bathroom and kitchen surfaces clean and dry to reduce mold and mildew.
  • Promptly clean up crumbs and wipe up spills.
  • Treat spots and stains as soon as they occur.

There are many design ideas that can help you eliminate the pain and time it takes to clean your home. Next time you speak to a home improvement expert ask how you can incorporate them into your home.
